Anthony Sblendorio, a pioneer in the field of sustainable and regenerative architectural and landscape design, will present a talk entitled “Principles of Sustainable Development” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the meeting room of the Guilford Free Public Library, 67 Park Street. Cosponsored by the GPA and the library, the event is free and open to the public.
Mr. Sblendorio is CEO and cofounder of Ecological, LLC (www.ecologicalgroup.com). The company began as an outgrowth of Back to Nature, the landscape architecture firm that he founded in 1994. In all, Mr. Sblendorio has more than eighteen years of experience in the creation of exquisite landscapes that fuse inspired site design with the values of regenerative principles.
Mr. Splendorio and Back to Nature developed one of the first “eco-agro” residential developments of its kind in New Jersey. They were also the lead master planners for the Willow School in Bedminster, N.J. As the first LEED-rated independent school in the country, it included one of the first LEED Gold-certified buildings in the Northeast and the first LEED Platinum-certified building in the state.
A certified landscape architect and LEED AP, Mr. Splendorio has won awards for green development in Fern Valley from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Hunterdon County Planning Board. He founded Ecological in 2008 in partnership with Joe Grano, the former chairman and CEO of UBS PaineWebber, and George E. Pataki, the former governor of New York.
Prior to his presentation at the Public Library, Mr. Sblendorio will tour potential sites for sustainable development in Guilford and meet with Town officials and GPA members to discuss how other communities have used sustainable principles to encourage innovative development.
