“The current edition is the one revised in 1995. It contains sections on preservation objectives, a list of the town’s scenic and architectural resources (the current town plan quoted this list of special places), detailed descriptions of ways to preserve these resources, and an action plan. The following is an excerpt from the document, which is available in its entirety in the Guilford Public Library.
The Master Plan for Preservation and Scenic Conservation provides the guidelines for those interested and concerned about the historic and scenic attributes which make Guilford the town that it is. It is intended to assist them in working together to supply the leadership and direction Guilford must have to preserve and conserve this priceless heritage while keeping watchful eyes on current trends and development which can have an effect on present and future growth.
The Plan itself takes into consideration our town’s past, its remarkable natural resources, and its current attractiveness as a place to live, to bring up our children, and how careful, thoughtful planning can contribute to blending all of these advantages into a community considered desirable and admired.
It offers guides and direction to accomplish preservation and conservation goals built on education and community effort, funding needs, counsel and regulatory assistance.”
